The Mandalorian (aka The Baby Yoda Show)

Hey there! I know, I know… it’s been a while. Some life and stuff kind of got in the way of me going anywhere with the blog, but I’m back again. And ready to take on all the great new Star Wars stuff that’s forthcoming, like The Mandalorian! If you’re new here, definitely make sure to check out my own personal Star Wars story as you jump in.

So, let’s get right to it. What’s new? Well, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that recently Disney released their very own streaming service filled with all the Disney/Marvel/Star Wars movies and shows that you love. Awesome! What’s even better? They have exclusive new shows and movies as well, the most popular of which is The Mandalorian. It’s a live-action Star Wars show directed by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal (from Game of Thrones fame) as, what else, a Mandalorian. Now, if you’re pretty new to Star Wars or just someone who’s not in quite as deep as the rest of us yet, you may not even know what a Mandalorian is. Well, here’s your answer, straight from Wookieepedia, the definitive source of data on Star Wars.

Mandalorians were a distinct human, clan-based people who originated on the planet Mandalore and its moon, Concordia. They had a particularly unique role in galactic history as legendary warriors against the Jedi. From their homeworld, Mandalorians had flourished across Mandalorian Space and the galaxy at large, colonising worlds such as Kalevala, Krownest, and Concord Dawn.

If you’re kind of a newb, you may know of the most famous Mandalorian from the original trilogy, Boba Fett. But he’s not who The Mandalorian is about. This Mandalorian is more unknown. He’s a bounty hunter like Boba, but we have yet to learn too much about his background in the first few episodes of the show. But what he’s currently doing is actually pretty interesting.

I won’t go into too much here as far as spoilers, but I will say that the show is great! It’s kind of dark, but not overly so. Each episode has featured some sort of adventure that the Mandalorian has gotten into. Starting with the first episode, they do all begin to tie in together as well. It creates a nice continuity that leaves you hanging in there to see what will happen next week.

Probably the most talked about aspect of The Mandalorian is… well, it’s kind of a spoiler, but if you’ve been on the internet at all recently, you’ve probably seen it. Baby Yoda! As some will say, it’s not actually Baby Yoda. The timeline of The Mandalorian is after Yoda died in Return of the Jedi. So this little guy is actually just a child of whatever Yoda’s species was. His official name until we learn from the show is actually just “The Child”. And yes, he is adorable!

The most recent episode of The Mandalorian featured some throwbacks to the original trilogy, which was a lot of fun to watch. Overall, the show is a success and seems to appeal to all kinds of Star Wars fans. It’s a great story and so far all of the episodes have made it clear that the world is ready for more stories set in this galaxy far, far away. If you want to know more, definitely go check it out on Disney+!
